THE GRAND CANYON OF AOUKERDA
The Grand Canyon of Aoukerda, situated approximately an hour south of Tafraoute, is a hidden gem in Morocco, far from the usual tourist trails. This awe-inspiring canyon is nestled within the Anti-Atlas Mountains, which are celebrated for their unique geological formations. The vibrant and layered rocks create a visual spectacle.
Although the road has been recently renovated, parts of it remain rough and challenging to navigate. However, the journey is undoubtedly worthwhile, as the route offers stunning panoramic views of the canyon.
As you venture further along the road, you'll encounter the "Window of Life," a naturally occurring aperture in the canyon wall. Continuing through the valley, you'll eventually arrive at the small village of Aoukerda. Here, you can explore a fascinating cave.
